Expose Thyself!

Hi all!

EXPOSURE. Why do we thrill to it? Does it heighten our sexual experience or our Selfhood? Are we really heard when we expose ourselves or are we just misunderstood more deeply?

For me orgasm is completely tied in with showing myself. And that's hard. Because I'm shy (can you believe it) and private, and yes, insecure. And that gets me thinking about pleasure and what it's really about. Does having a true orgasmic experience, be it sexual or just a deep honest belly laugh, involve some form of self exhibition? Does that mean, if we are too private with our self expression we can't enjoy ourselves in public or even with another person? Sometimes, I find I am inhibited even by myself. I have an almost anti-exhibitionist posture that holds me back from wiggling my naked hips even for myself. That makes me sad.

Life is enough of a struggle, why do we get in our own way ? Occasionally I push myself to do public things-i.e. a radio or TV interview, a toast at a wedding, a loud witty remark at a large dinner party. Before the moment I am a wreck. Nervous and self-doubting. After, I am exhilarated, literally turned on. So how do we shed these things that get in the way of showing the world, our partners, and ourselves who we truly are? Let's say what we want to say, wear what we want to wear, and flaunt what we want to flaunt. To be heard and recognized. To be orgasmic.

Of course, discovering what we want to flaunt can be difficult. Searching amidst the media dominated trends its hard to know where they begin and we end. First, we must step away from our culture and reflect. When a true nugget worth showing off surfaces practice it on the world. But don't be surprised when much of the world misinterprets your personal gem. I am not blindly optimistic. But I do think at the bottom of our pleasure (forgive the panty-orientation) is ourselves. And we need to claim our joy (sexual and otherwise) by living a true and open (to a point) life. Being seen falling is embarrassing but not to be seen at all is painful. And who needs that?
