Welcome To The Boudoir

Tell me something. Is being Bad a good thing? Or is being Good a Bad thing? I'm confused. It seems like in the WACKYJAC realm of rocker girls, goddess worshippers, feminists, witches, pro-sex-ers , genderellas etc., Bad is the word. Pink is hip as an inside joke, and Good girls are seductively innocent because they're actually subversive Bad Girls having it all!

We recently put a new pair of socks up on the site with I do bad things scrawled on the side and we can't keep up with the orders. Who knew? In a way were all BAD at WJ headquarters if you count subversion of the mainstream, dominant paradigm as BAD. But aren't there other ways to identify personal power and self-expression. And even so, why does identifying as BAD feel so good?

I have a whole bunch of ideas why. I'm wondering if there are other ways to feel empowered or different from the norm and still feeling plain old good. It's only a word, right? But words are potent. A good girl having fun is almost an oxymoron. Pretty ridiculous.

When I was a young teenager I was a Good girl. Pretty tight with my parents, interested in my classes, I wasn't comfortable breaking most of the rules. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks with the aid of divorcing parents, rule breaking was more than just wrong. It was FREE-ing. Suddenly, the Bad crowd wasn't scary and I could like school and late night adventuring all at once. I thought I had it made.

Now as a mom, entrepreneur, pushing 40 woman I am back in the same quandary. Can I be a GOOD mom and live a true, full, self enhancing life. Am I too old to enjoy this, am I too saddled to enjoy that. And why does putting on a pair of I do bad things socks feel good? I'd love to have your thoughts.

Hope you all have a Happy Halloween. Maybe this year we can all don a Good Girl costume and see how it feels. Or better yet, wear those horns and virgin undies underneath. As always, its the stuff that isnt what it seems, that keeps me going!
